SRINAGAR

Reacting to senior National Conference (NC) leader and Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather that the state government won’t extend Tosamaidan lease, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) chairman and MLA Khan sahib, Hakim Mohammad Yasin Wednesday said if government is sincere in its efforts it should notify new firing range.

In a statement, he said, “Government’s commitment shouldn’t remain on papers only. It shouldn’t be an election stint. If government claims that the lease won’t be extended, then it should notify and identify a new place for firing range.”

“As the lease agreement is ending on April 18, people have doubts and apprehensions about the government’s claims. They will believe the government claims only when notification will be issued that the lease has been ended,” he said.

Warning that any delay in the case could bring people on streets, the MLA Khan sahib in whose constituency Tosamaidan falls, said, “People will come on streets and all the responsibility will lie on the shoulders of the government. When I raised the issue in the Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on the floor of House made a commitment that the lease won’t be extended. Now it is high time for Omar to fulfil his commitment with the people.”

Hakim assured the people of Tosamaidan and its adjoining areas of his full support. “I am with the people of my constituency and will go to any extend for their cause,” he assured.
