SRINAGAR: On directions of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan, Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) department has constituted 131 beats of rivers and streams across the valley for their round the clock monitoring by its officers.

In this regard, I&FC department constituted 14 flood Zonal Committees in 39 sectors in ten districts of the Kashmir Division.

Giving break-up of the beats, it is said that in Anantnag district one Flood Zonal Committee in five sectors with 15 beats, in Kulgam one Flood Zonal Committee in three sectors with 8 beats, in Shopian one Flood Zonal Committee in two sectors with 7 beats, in Pulwama  two Flood Zonal Committees in four sectors with 15 beats, in Srinagar one Flood Zonal Committee in four sectors with 20 beats, in Ganderbal  one Flood Zonal Committee in one sector with 2 beats, in Budgam two Flood Zonal Committees in four sectors with 12 beats, in Bandipora one Flood Zonal Committee in six sectors with 23 beats, in Baramulla  two Flood Zonal Committees in four sectors with 13 beats and in Kupwara district two Flood Zonal Committees in six sectors with 16 beats were constituted by Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) department on the embankments of rivers and streams, the spokesman said.

I&FC department has given strict directions to the beat officers to monitor their respective beats 24×7 and send daily report to the Zonal flood Committees so that foolproof mechanism will be made to deal with flood situation effectively at the time of emergency and better services delivery to the people could be ensured.
