SRINAGAR: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed senior IPS officer Vidhi Kumar Birdi as Inspector General (IG) in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on deputation basis.

According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on June 1, 2026, Birdi, a 2003-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) against an existing vacancy. The appointment has been approved by the competent authority and will be governed by the standard terms and conditions of central deputation.
The order states that Birdi will serve at Level-14 of the pay matrix and has been directed to assume charge of his new assignment at the Centre.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has requested the concerned authorities to relieve him immediately to facilitate his joining at the new posting.
Birdi is presently serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, and has previously held several key assignments during his policing career. An engineering graduate with an MBA, he has served as SDPO Kothibagh Srinagar, SP City East Srinagar, SSP Kupwara, SSP Special Security Group JK, DIG North Kashmir Range Baramulla, and DIG Central Kashmir Range Srinagar. He was serving as DIG Central Kashmir Range at the time of the abrogation of Article 370.
