Inspector-General of Police Kashmir S P Pani-IPS on Sunday visited South Kashmir’s Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts where he chaired meetings with officers and held interactions with the jawans posted in these districts, said the spokesman.

The spokesman said that IGP Kashmir was accompanied by DIG SKR Atul Kumar Goel-IPS and the respective district SSP.

He said that at Kulgam while interacting with the officers and jawans, IGP Kashmir appreciated the contribution made by police in maintaining peace and tranquillity in the area. He stressed on the jawans to strengthen bonds with the public and work for the welfare of community members which will facilitate the public cooperation in policing activities and will eventually help us to curb the criminal activities in the area.

IGP also said that functioning of police has improved over the years due to the technological up-gradation and the present-day police is well equipped to face the challenges posed by the inimical elements besides he said that police is keen towards the welfare of the jawans and will provide them with better accommodation and other facilities at their workplace.

At Shopian, IGP Kashmir while interacting with the jawans briefed them about the various initiatives taken by the department for the welfare of the Police Personnel. He lauded the efforts made by District Police Shopian in curbing crime and criminal activities in the area despite challenges. He also appreciated the role played by police in countering militancy and facilitating the welfare of the community members.

IGP directed the officers to conduct the orderly rooms frequently and prioritise the redressal of grievances raised by the jawans. IGP also stressed on holding frequent police public meeting in all the areas so as to resolve the issues faced by the citizens at the grassroots level and promote citizen-centric governance. IGP emphasised that such meeting will help us to extend cordial relations with the public and will make it easier for police to carry out their policing activities besides it will also help them to gain the confidence and trust of the community members.

IGP Kashmir later held an interaction with the officers and jawans at DPL Pulwama. IGP Kashmir in his address to the jawans congratulated them for handling the situation professionally and saving the lives and property of the people. He stressed on them to ensure coordination and synergy among the forces operating on the ground and ensure that the community members are protected from the inimical elements.

IGP said that JK Police has rendered a lot of sacrifices for maintaining peace in the valley and directed the jawans and officers to focus on redressing the problems faced by the community members.

IGP also discussed the issues pertaining to the welfare of the jawans and said that the working conditions of the jawans have significantly improved and the department is keen to provide the jawans with several other facilities which will help them to discharge their duties more efficiently.

He further assured the jawans that medical facility is being upgraded for the welfare of jawans and officers and emphasised on the officials to promote clean and transparent governance practices as a part of their commitment towards the welfare of the community members.

IGP directed the officers to ensure implementation of all existing welfare measures for the serving police personnel and the families of martyrs on a priority basis. He said that police needs to continue its good work with more dedication so as to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, said police spokesman in a statement.
