SRINAGAR: A policeman was on Wednesday shot dead by unknown gunmen in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.
An official said that the gunmen fired at Abdul Rashid Dar (58) son of Ghulam Hassan, in Furrah area of Mir Bazar in Kulgam, leaving him critically injured.
He was shifted to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Medical superintendent GMC Anantnag Dr Majid Mahrib told news agency GNS that he was declared brought dead.
Sources said that he was working with counter-insurgent forces (Ikhwan) before joining Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Meanwhile, the entire area has been cordoned off and searches have been launched to trace the attackers, officials added.
