SRINAGAR: Acting tough against the persons involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, police have arrested 22 persons and seized 24 vehicles in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday.

A police spokesperson in a statement said, “Police in Kulgam constituted multiple teams under the close supervision of SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal, who during multiple raids, patrolling and naka checkings arrested 22 persons and seized 24 vehicles (15 Tractors, 7 Dumpers, 1 Tipper and 1 JCB machine), involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from river Veshaw and other nallahs of district.”

“Regarding these incidents, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at PS Devsar, PS Qaimoh, PS Qazigund, PS Kulgam, PS Kund, PS Behibagh, PS Manzgam, PS DH Pora and further investigation have been taken up,” it reads.

Police said that people should come forward or Dial-112 regarding any information about illegal extraction of these resources either from river Veshaw or from any other Nallah in the district.
