SRINAGAR: In a robust crackdown on individuals engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, the police have seized five vehicles and apprehended five drivers in Kulgam.

“A police team from Police Post Frisal confiscated five vehicles (comprising three tractors, one tipper, and one excavator) and arrested four drivers at Gundchahal for their involvement in illegal mineral extraction and transportation. The accused drivers have been identified as Mohd Hussain Tantray, Mohd Ashraf Bhat, Shahnawaz Ahmad Lone, and Ishtiyaq Ahmad Khanday, all residents of Shirpora, as well as Sartaj Ahmad Mir from Hassanpora, Bijebhara,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

Subsequently, a case under FIR No. 20/2024, encompassing relevant sections of the law, has been lodged at Police Station Yaripora, with further investigation underway.

The public is urged to refrain from engaging in any form of illegal mining activities in water bodies, as this contravenes government regulations. Those found participating in such illegal practices will be subject to legal action.
