SRINAGAR: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested 18 persons who were involved in illegal sand mining in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Acting on the information of illegal sand mining from river Jhelum at Baramulla, police in a statement said that swift action was taken and 18 persons were arrested.

It was also stated that police seized four tractors and one tipper on spot at Khojbagh area when they were found illegally extracting and loading sand from river Jhelum.

In this regard case, FIR no106/2020 u/s 188,379,447,427IPC stands registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation taken up.

Police in its statement also requested people living adjacent to the mining areas of river Jhelum to kindly pass information of illegal sand extraction from river Jhelum to police
