The daughter of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti Iltija Mufti on Friday sought formal permission from the administration for offering prayers at her grandfather’s grave in BijbhehraAnantnag on his fourth death anniversary.

The letter which she has written to ADG Law and Order Muneer Ahmed Khan reads: “As you know 7th January this year marks the fourth death anniversary of my beloved grandfather Mufti Mohammad Sayed. Our family would like to visit his grave in DaraShikohAnantnag to offer prayers and remember him. I am writing to you to seek permission for the same (sic).”

“I was disallowed and subsequently detained when I sought permission to do so yesterday,” she added.

In the letter, she has also questioned the authorities for detaining her on Thursday.

“Since the civil and police administration has stated on record repeatedly that situation in valley is normal, I don’t see why we should be denied permission to offer our tributes at his grave on the 7th of January (sic).”

She also added that she hopes that authorities will facilitate their visit.

“It would be a crying shame if the administration or police denied us the right to even mourn and remember Mufti Sahib on his fourth death anniversary (sic).” (KNS)
