SRINAGAR: Five footballers from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have made their way into the Under-16 National camp, earning an opportunity to participate in the zonal selection trial for the upcoming SAFF Cup football tournament in Bhutan.

Arun Malhotra, a former Indian footballer and member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Technical Committee, announced that the trials are scheduled to take place from June 7 to 13 in Punjab. Malhotra emphasised that the AIFF had chosen two boys from each state, and he commended Jammu and Kashmir for securing five spots for their talented players.

The selected footballers from Jammu and Kashmir who will be representing the Union Territory are Arnav Sharma, Krish Kerni, Abdul Salha Shear Gojri, Aayaan Bilal, and Hashim Bilal.

Malhotra, who personally oversaw the trials, also praised the Secretary of J&K Sports Council for his support and instrumental role in promoting the game of football and taking it to new heights of glory.

It is worth mentioning that the J&K Sports Council will cover the expenses related to the travel of the selected candidates through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, further supporting their participation in the trials. Additionally, the selection trials involved the notable contributions of ex-international footballer Ishfaq Ahmad, international coach Sajid Yousuf Dar, educator Javaid Ahmad, certified scout Arun Pal Jasrotia, and coach Satpal Singh.

An official expressed optimism, stating, “Our players are dedicated to bringing glory to Jammu and Kashmir on the football field, and we have several measures in the pipeline to uplift the game in the region.”
