In Jammu, Leh and Kargil, a total of 25632 Village Defence Committee members are operating, government said on Friday.
This information was given by the Minister for Hajj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri on behalf of Chief Minister while replying to a question by Firdous Ahmed Tak in LC, an official statement said.
“Militancy in Jammu region has declined considerably during the past many years, however, some militancy related incidents have taken place in Jammu region during the year 2014-15,the minister said.
He said that during the year 2014, 12 militancy related incidents took place in Jammu region. He said during the year 2015 upto 22nd March, 03 militancy related incidents have taken place in Jammu region.
“SPOs deployed with VDCs are paid honorarium @ Rs 3000 per month on the analogy of SPOs working in the Police Department adding that capsule training is imparted to the VDC members through police. Training is being monitored by the concerned SDPOs and Police Stations,” he added.
