SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a formal case against the Principal St Mary’s Presentation Convent Secondary School Gandhi Nagar and her Deputy for violating the government guidelines on school closure. The case was registered after an executive magistrate established that Covid19 infected a teacher while the management asked her to report to her duties.

The teacher was identified as Neelu Varinder. After giving the virus a brave fight, Neelu succumbed to the infection in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. Her husband, also infected by the virus, is still not tested negative.

“FIR No. 154/2021 under Sections 188/269/270/506 IPC, 3 Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and 15 Disaster Management Act 2005 was registered against Sister Hema and Sister Leema at Gandhi Nagar police station for further investigations,” Jammu newspaper, Daily Excelsior reported. “The FIR was based on inquiry conducted by an Executive Magistrate into reports that the Convent School Gandhi Nagar violated the Government guidelines on closure of schools due to COVID-19 and continued to call the teachers leading to infection to one of them and subsequently her death.”
