SRINAGAR: More than 50 couples have taken marriage vows at a mass wedding function in Srinagar. The ceremony was managed by We The Helping Hand, an NGO that has been organising such functions in Kashmir.

51 couples that attended the function at the marriage hall in Srinagar’s Baba Demb area belonged to underprivileged sections of society. They were from various Kashmir districts. The ceremony was simple but impressive.

Umar Wani who is heading the NGO we the helping hand said the couples register with the group, following which we verify their antecedents and help them. He said that they helped many such families who don’t have a good stable financial condition. He added that catering for about 500 people was also arranged by the organisation.

Maulvis were also there to perform Nikah Khwani. Arrangements for food were also made for family members and many volunteers were also seen working.

“This time, 51 couples out of 100 were found worthy and their marriage ceremony was fully arranged by the organisation,” Wani said.

Girls are provided with all the necessities of life including clothes, shoes and some essential gadgets like rice cookers etc, Wani added.
