In yet another accident allegedly due to negligence of bus driver, 23 students were injured when a school bus fell into a stream on Saturday in North Kashmir’s Kupwara.
Bus driver has reportedly fled from the spot and gone underground. The accident and the resultant injuries of school children sent shock waves across Kashmir. This is the second accident of its nature in last 4 days.
Earlier Nine children were dead and 18 others injured in the same kind of accident in south Kashmir.
Pall of gloom descended on entire Kupwara area as the news of the accident spread in the area and its adjoining villages. The parents and other residents mourned and tried to get the first hand information about their wards. The women wailed, beating their chest.
“A school mini bus of Army Good Will School of Trehgam fell into stream after it went out of driver’s controls. It came out of school premises around 2:30pm carrying students to drop them back at their homes”, eye witnesses told KNS.
Officials sources told KNS that al injured students were shifted to PHC Trehgam where from nine students were referred to Sub District Hospital Kupwara. Doctors have declared the condition of all students out of danger.
Injured students have been identified as Irfan Ahmad Lone, Iram Aziz and Zakir Ahmad Khan all residents of Kawara. Umer Farooq, Nazia Hassan, Imtiaz Ahmad Shah, Shugufta Akbar and Razia Shah all residents of Handi. Another student Masood Ahmad one of Heeri has also got injured in this bus incident.
When contacted, BMO Kupwara Dr. G.N Lone, said, “All injured students are being treated and ever possible faculty has been put on place for their treatment. The condition of students is out of danger”.
Driver of bus Prince Ahmad Sheikh son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh resident of Ridi Chowkibal has reportedly fled from the spot after occurrence of incident. Locals alleged that driver was driving fast and the vehicle went out of his control resulting in falling of bus into the stream.
