Indian Army Tuesday recovered 9 crates of liquor during a night long crackdown in Paniwa hamlet of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that after receiving inputs about the ‘presence’ of militants, Army personnel from 9 RR along with SOG Kulgam cordoned off Paniwa village during Monday night. “During the search operation when forces couldn’t find any militant in the village, they asked us to handover the weapons that militants have dumped here,” they said.
During the search operation at Idgah Paniwa, the troopers found “9 boxes of liquor hidden inside dry grass”. “With the seizure of the wine bottles, the cordon was lifted on Tuesday afternoon.”
A police official said that the forces had information about the presence of militants in the area. “They had also inputs that militants have dumped weapons in the village, however, during the search operation, liquor crates were found,” he said adding that a case has been registered in this regard.
