In Solidarity With Farmers, Punjab Truckers Blocking JK Highway

SRINAGAR:  The Punjab farmers agitation will soon started impacting Jammu and Kashmir as the truckers have decided to jam Madhopur, the first Punjab town on the Jammu and Kashmir border. The truckers are doing it in solidarity with the ongoing farmer agitation, Chandigarh newspaper Tribune reported.

Kashmir is already facing the music for the ailing highway connecting with Jammu. The jamming at the Punjab border will add to the crisis especially for the fruit that is still being explored to the major markets outside Kashmir.

“Being closely associated with the farming community, we can realise the pressure that the farmers are bearing while holding the protest at Delhi border. Many among us too are farmers,” Happy Sandhu, who heads the All-Punjab Truck Operators’ Union, was quoted saying. “While they are holding protest at Delhi border, we intend to jam the J&K border to further weaken the government over its adamant stand of not withdrawing the three Farm Laws”.

Sandhu said they will park trucks and form long queues to block the Jammu and Kashmir highway at Madhopu. “Our protest will continue till the demands of the farmers are not accepted by the government”, the newspaper quoted Jagjit Kamboj of the All India Motor Transport Congress, Jalandhar, saying.
