SRINAGAR: The 108 and 102 Emergency Medical Services, operated by BVG India Ltd in collaboration with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, have facilitated 1000 deliveries since their inception on March 24, 2020, official data revealed here on Monday.
An official said that this life-saving initiative has become a crucial lifeline for expectant mothers across the region. “Trained 108 ambulance staff played a pivotal role in conducting these deliveries, offering vital support during childbirth,” he said.
The providing official said that the 108 Jammu and Kashmir Emergency Medical Services have diligently served a remarkable 2,71,801 patients. Notably, during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the service served 12,111 COVID patients, demonstrating resilience in times of crisis.
‘’Out of the total patients served, 29 per cent (78,175) were pregnancy-related emergencies, underscoring the essential role played by the emergency services in maternal care,’’ the official added.
District-wise statistics reveal Unhamper as the highest, with 8,665 pregnancy cases, followed by Rajouri at 7,158, Kupwara at 4,968, and Kathua at 4,881. Srinagar reported the lowest with 981 cases, followed by Anantnag 10, Bandipora 26, Baramulla 16, Budgam 17, Doda 69, Ganderbal 31, Jammu 84, Kathua 107, Kishtwar 64, Kulgam 19, Poonch 12, Pulwama 6, Rajouri 82, Ramban 83, Reasi 57, Samba 38, Shopian 13, and Udhampur 229.
Furthermore, Udhampur leads in district-wise assisted births, with 229 deliveries, followed by Kathua 107, Jammu 84, and Ramban 83.
The official said that the 108 Jammu and Kashmir Emergency Medical Services have not only reached a significant milestone by assisting in 1000 deliveries but have also proven to be a critical component of the healthcare infrastructure.
