SRINAGAR:  The 77th Independence Day was celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday with scores of functions even as extraordinary security arrangements were put in place for smooth celebrations.

The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Nation First, Always First’, an integral part of the broader ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration.

An unprecedented sight unfolded on Tuesday as lengthy queues formed at the entrance gates of Srinagar’s Bakshi Stadium, the primary venue for the Independence Day celebrations.

Enthusiastic participants, spanning various age groups including women, children, and the elderly, displayed significant interest in joining the event.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha raised the Tricolour at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar and delivered a speech to the public.

LG’s Advisor R R Bhatnagar presided over the function at M A Stadium in Jammu.

At the respective district headquarters, District Development Council (DDC) chairpersons were the chief guests.

During the event, Lt Governor reviewed the parade and saluted the impressive march past of the groups, which included contingents from the J&K Police, security forces, school students, as well as the Brass & Pipe bands of the J&K Police and the BSF.

The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (JKL), Srinagar Wing today celebrated 77th Independence Day was with full patriotic zeal and fervor here.

The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of National Flag by Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Ladakh, Justice N. Kotiswar Singh who took salute at the March Past followed by the playing of the National Anthem and patriotic tunes by the Band.

Special DGP (CID), R. R. Swain , Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Registrar General, Principal Secretary to Chief Justice, Government Advocates and all the officers/ officials of High Court of J&K and Ladakh, were also present on the occasion.

Former CM and PDP chief, Mehbooba Mufti took to twitter to congratulate people on the occasion.

“Happy Independence day to my fellow countrymen. May the idea of INDIA that binds us together triumph,” Mehbooba tweeted.


Omar Abdullah also took to twitter and said, ” Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high Where knowledge is free Where the world has not been broken up into fragments By narrow domestic walls Where words come out from the depth of truth Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit Where the mind is led forward by thee Into ever-widening thought and action Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake. Yaum-e-Azadi mubarak ho.”

Congress Leaders and workers also celebrated the 77th Independence Day and exchanged greetings.

A jubilant atmosphere was witnessed here at the Apni Party headquarters in Srinagar as the party leaders gathered to commemorate the nation’s 77th Independence Day.


During the event, the party’s president, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, hoisted the tricolour to mark Independence Day.

Democratic Progressive Azad Party Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday greeted the people on 77th Independence Day and hoisted the flag at his residence in New Delhi, while Gen Secretary R.S.Chib, hoisted the national flag at Provincial headquarters Jammu & Provincial President Kashmir Mohd Amin Bhatt hoisted the flag in Srinagar.

The University of Kashmir (KU) Tuesday hoisted the national flag at the main and satellite campuses with full honour and respect to celebrate the 77th independence day marking 76 years of freedom.

Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof Nilofer Khan led the flag-hoisting ceremony here at the main campus. The national anthem was sung while the national flag was being hoisted.
