SRINAGAR: INDIA bloc’s Vice-Presidential candidate and former Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy on Thursday filed his nomination in the presence of senior Opposition leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, as per several media reports.
NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav, DMK’s Tiruchi Siva and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut were among those who accompanied him.
Calling the election a “battle of ideology, not numbers,” Reddy as per Indian Express said he hoped for support across party lines as he does not belong to any political party.
The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9. Nominations close on August 21, with withdrawals allowed till August 25. The post remained vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21 citing health reasons.
