According to India Post officials, the N-Gen Post Office was dedicated jointly by Prof Nilofer Khan, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, and DSVR Murthy, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu Kashmir Circle, in the presence of Adam Mohi-ud-Din, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar Postal Division. The initiative is part of the Department of Posts’ broader programme to modernise campus post offices and deliver technology-enabled services.

Speaking at the inauguration, Prof Nilofer Khan said the N-Gen initiative aligns postal services with the evolving needs of students and academic institutions, while reflecting a greater focus on accessibility and service delivery within university campuses.

Chief Postmaster General DSVR Murthy said the initiative is in line with the vision of Union Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia to strengthen India Post as an integrated logistics and financial services organisation. He said the N-Gen Post Office brings together postal, banking, insurance and e-commerce services under one roof, supported by digital payment facilities and simplified service processes.

Murthy added that the new facility will play an important role in creating awareness among students and the university community about postal savings schemes, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) services and other India Post offerings.

As part of the N-Gen initiative, the Post Office at the University of Kashmir has been redesigned with student participation. Students involved in the redesign process were awarded certificates and an honorarium, while wall art inside the Post Office was created by students of the School of Fine Arts. New facilities introduced include Aadhaar updation services, Wi-Fi connectivity, a coffee machine and board games, along with a decorative pen installation placed near the letter box.
