Drung (Khaag)

Expressing surprise over the anger and anguish shown by union minister for environment Jayanthi Natarjan over the reports that villagers of Mohammad Pora Shopian had tried to burn a bear alive, MLA Langate Er Rasheed appreciated the quick response from union minister but asked question that why there is different attitude when human lives get lost at the hands of security forces.

Addressing a public meeting at Drung Khaag in district Budgam, Rasheed asking question to Natarjan said, “she had written a letter to CM Omar Abdullah asking him to take stern action against those who tried to burn the bear but can she justify why government of India has never asked state government or intelligence agencies to punish even a single officer involved in human rights violation”.

“Kashmiris have a right to ask the central govt. that why it has not shown even the least interest in initiating action against those who carried out incidents like Pathribal and Nadihal and played with honor and dignity of Kashmiri people whenever and wherever they want to do so,” Rasheed told the gathering.

Accusing government of India for being uncivilized, Rasheed said, “It is panic and uncivilized that the government of India provides complete protection to animals at the cost of human beings but fails to protect the rights of innocent Kashmiris including their right to live which should have been supreme than all rights”.

“Show some responsibility and maturity while passing such comments as Kashmiris who have lost thousands of their near and dear ones feel hurt when they hear someone claiming to be a Gandhian and crying for the rights of animals but protecting the killers in uniform who have send one lakh Kashmiris to graveyard,” he added.

Pertinent to mention that few days ago, a bear strayed in village of Shopian, where people in panic assembled and attacked the animal with burning cloth tied to stick. Reportedly the bear with flames from a tree managed to escape. The probe has been already ordered.
