Kashmir will be officially promoted by the Indian ambassador-designate to Oman Indra Mani Pandey in the Gulf nation that has already been one of popular foreign destination among Kashmiri youth seeking employment.

Earlier this year, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had announced that all its diplomats need to adopt two states that they would want to promote in the country they are posted. Pandey, who is posted in Oman chose Kashmir as one of his states. It is being speculated that other state could be Kerala.

He had reportedly called on J&K chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed last week and briefed him about MEA’s new initiative. The chief minister had observed that Middle East countries hold great potential for export of handicraft products as well as flow of tourists to J&K for which the state government will extend all facilities to strengthen the linkage.

Pandey later met the Chief Secretary to work out modalities for increasing tourist footfall from Oman and promoting export Kashmiri handicrafts to the Gulf nation.
