SRINAGAR: India has strongly condemned an attack on a commercial vessel near Limah in Oman, which claimed the life of an Indian national and left 13 others rescued, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday.
The attack on MSV AL JUSUFI took place on Monday evening, with 14 Indian nationals aboard, according to the ministry. While 13 crew members were rescued, one Indian national died from injuries sustained in the incident.
The MEA expressed condolences over the death and said the Indian Embassy in Oman was in contact with local authorities to facilitate the early repatriation of the rescued Indians and the mortal remains of the deceased.
Expressing concern over continued attacks on commercial shipping in the region, India called for an immediate reduction in tensions and urged all parties to conclude ongoing negotiations towards a diplomatic resolution.
“The targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region must end,” the ministry said.
It also stressed the need to restore free and unimpeded navigation and trade through international waterways in the region at the earliest, in accordance with international law.
