Terming the recent statements of some mainstream politicians, calling for plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir,  as a mere political rhetoric to mislead the people of the state, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said the same mainstream politicians accuse them of having nexus with “terrorists”, when they (Hurriyat) try to take on board various stakeholders of Kashmir dispute.

“It is these parties that are advocating for plebiscite in the state that are basically a hurdle in implementation of the UN resolutions.  For the lust of power, they have sold out the natural resources of the state and weakened its political status and economy of the state”, said the Mirwaiz during a Seerat Conference organized at the Hurriyat Conference headquarters, adding “People of the state are mature now and they cant be hoodwinked by such gimmicks”.

Strongly reacting to the recent statements by Indian diplomats calling for revocation of the United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) , the Hurriyat Chairman said: “This statements is a crude joke.

Kashmir issue is an internationally recognized dispute with the UN having passed so many resolutions on it. Although the UN has itself been unable to implement these resolutions, but it is a joke on part of India to make such statements”. He said the statement by the Indian diplomat puts a question mark on the very existence of United Nations.

Underscoring the need for working together by freedom loving parties in the state, Mirwaiz said the Hurriyat has always been for unity among ummah and different political sections of the society.  He said the conglomerate has many times in the past taken steps for unity.

Without naming anyone, Mirwaiz said:”Those who call themselves as the lone torch bearers and stakeholders  of the freedom struggle must understand that people have in the past and are continuing to make countless sacrifices in the way of the movement”.

The Mirwaiz while speaking during the Seerat Conference said Kashmiris have been over centuries known for their brotherhood and communal harmony. He called upon people to follow the teachings and Principles of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for turning the Kashmiri society into a civilized nation. “The Prophet’s (PBUH) life should be a role model for us”, he added.
