SRINAGAR: IndiGo will increase fuel charges on domestic and international flights from Tuesday, citing a sharp rise in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices and its impact on operating costs.
IndiGo to Hike Fuel Surcharge for Domestic and International Flights from October 6 (October 05, 2026)
🔹 IndiGo announced a fuel surcharge hike on domestic and international flights effective October 6, 2026, pushing overall airfares higher amid surging aviation turbine fuel prices.
🔹 Domestic flight surcharges will increase by ₹100 to ₹350 depending on the distance traveled, alongside a recalibrated increase for international routes.
🔹 The airline cited a month-on-month ATF price surge of over 14%, driving jet fuel costs to nearly decade-high levels and pressuring operating margins.
🔹 Management noted that because fuel accounts for a significant portion of airline operating expenses, the surcharge adjustment is necessary to protect network economics and offset cost inflation.

The revised charges will apply to new bookings made from 0001 hours on October 6, the airline said on Monday.
For domestic flights, the additional fuel charge will range from Rs 375 to Rs 1,300, depending on the distance. The slabs are Rs 375 for journeys up to 500 km, Rs 600 for 501–1,000 km, Rs 900 for 1,001–1,500 km, Rs 1,150 for 1,501–2,000 km and Rs 1,300 for routes exceeding 2,000 km.
For international flights, the revised fuel charge will range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline, said ATF prices had remained volatile in recent months, with geopolitical developments in the Middle East adding to market uncertainty. It said a month-on-month increase of more than 14 per cent had pushed ATF prices to among their highest levels in the past decade.
The airline said the sustained increase in fuel costs had made it necessary to revise fuel charges across its domestic and international network, as ATF constitutes a significant portion of airline operating expenses.
The move follows IndiGo’s increase in several ancillary charges in September, including fees for infant travel, unaccompanied minors and excess baggage.
The airline had raised the domestic infant travel charge to Rs 3,000 from Rs 2,200, while the applicable fee varies on international flights. Its website lists charges of Rs 5,999 for unaccompanied minors on domestic flights and Rs 12,999 on international routes.
