SRINAGAR: The army said it thwarted an infiltration attempt by militants from across the border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch area on Monday. The incident took place in the early hours of the day when alert Army troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in the Degwar sector detected suspicious movement.

Details revealed that the troops observed a group of infiltrators attempting to sneak into the Indian side under the cover of darkness. Responding swiftly, the soldiers engaged the infiltrators in a fierce gunfight.

During the encounter, one infiltrator was killed by the Army, but due to the ongoing security situation, his body remains un-retrieved at the scene. The army cordoned off the entire area to ensure the safety of civilians and launched a search operation to locate any other potential threats.

Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal has added to the details of the incident that took place around 2 am in the Garhi battalion area. “Two individuals were observed moving across the LoC in the general area of Degwar Terva. In the ensuing firefight, one terrorist was seen dropping while the second moved towards Pintu Nala,” he said.

This is the second infiltration bid that was neutralised by the army. Yesterday in a similar action, they killed an infiltrator in the Amrohi area of Tangdar.
