Directorate of Information shall be shifting to its new office at Polo view (old PSC) on Monday, said the Director Information Department.

“We have tried to keep the ambience of the place intact and not gone for any additional floors,” said Muneer Ul Islam, the director.  “The office shall be built in three phases. Main office is ready which shall start functioning from 24th of this month.”

He said work on phase two is going on in full swing.

“It will have a state of art multi-purpose press conference hall of 40×75 feet. Care has been taken of videographers/photographers, so that print and AV journalists don’t have to jostle for space. It shall also house a library cum reading room of 18×30 feet and a workstation for journalists of equal dimension. The workstation shall be served with a dedicated high end Internet lease line so that journalists can file their stories from there only. Construction on a canteen serving food items at affordable prices has also started.”

All the shanty structures have been removed to make space for parking of 50 to 60 vehicles,” he said.

“In phase three we propose to have a multi- purpose lecture hall to be used for workshops on photography, videography creative writing etc. etc. for school going children. We also hope to have certificate courses in print/Av/ muti-media for working journalists who wish to hone up their skills.”

One of the treasure troves of information department is the research and reference library (which houses newspapers as old as of 1915). “It is presently is tucked like a junkyard on the 3rd floor of PIB building at Pratap park. Hopefully, it too shall be housed in the building to be constructed in phase 3. We intend to have three to four guest rooms for guest faculty/ visiting journalists too.”
