SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the innovative efforts being implemented by the UT administration in tackling the menace of drugs in Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing the nation on the 103rd episode of his monthly Radio Address `Mann Ki Baat’ PM Modi said that various innovative methods like musical events, and bike rallies are being organized in the UT, all aimed to raise awareness against drugs and their ill effects.

He said the increasing participation of youth in the campaign against drug abuse is encouraging as it is imperative to keep future generations away from the influence of drugs.

He pointed out that two weeks ago, India took huge action against drugs by destroying 1.5 lakh kg consignment. The nation has also created a unique record of destroying 10 lakh kg of drugs valued at Rs 12,000 crore.

He also referred to the Haj pilgrimage saying that Hajj 2023 was specia, especially for Muslim women from India, as more than 4000 such women went on the annual pilgrimage without a Mehram (male guardian).
