SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Vice President and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday emphasised that consumers must install smart electricity meters to avail themselves of the government’s 200-unit power concession, cautioning that those who refuse will be charged full market rates.
Addressing the media, Omar said it was his responsibility to engage with the people of Budgam, who had extended their support in the previous election. “It is my duty to communicate certain matters to the people of Budgam. If you wish to receive the 200-unit electricity benefit, you must install meters. Otherwise, your bills will increase, and no concession will apply,” he stated.
He further clarified that the scheme carried no hidden terms or special conditions. “If you seek the concession, install meters. If you are willing to pay full rates, you may choose not to. The decision rests with you,” he said, adding that all non-functional and fake meters had already been removed.
