SRINAGAR: Government Middle School (GMS) Onagam marked Teachers’ Day with a unique celebration, inviting retired teachers from the village and former staff members to commemorate their contributions to the school and the community. The event, a heartfelt tribute, brought together generations of educators and students, fostering an atmosphere of reflection and gratitude.
Ghulam Ahmad Zargar from Bandipora district expressed his joy at the event, remarking, “It’s a great pleasure to be with the teachers who were once our students.” He praised the thoughtful gesture of inviting retired educators, recognising their foundational role in the school’s success. “This is truly one of a kind. Inviting retired teachers from the community and appreciating their efforts shows great respect for our profession.”
Headmaster Javid Ahmad Bhat highlighted the significance of the occasion, stating, “Teachers are more than educators—they are the mentors and guides of society.” He underscored the need to honour the contributions of teachers who shape future generations. “The society needs to appreciate the role of teachers, for they are the real heroes who help shape the future,” Bhat said, hoping the event would inspire others to value the pivotal role of educators in individual and societal development.
The students of GMS Onagam played an active role in the celebration, presenting cultural programmes to honour the occasion. Class 7 student Uzma Altaf was excited to meet the former teachers, calling it “a one-of-a-kind experience.” Similarly, Abrar Irshad, a Class 8 student, expressed his admiration for the teaching profession, saying, “When I grow up, I want to become a teacher.”
As a gesture of appreciation, students prepared personalised cards for the guests, and the current teaching staff presented gifts to the retired teachers. Outstanding students were also recognised with books and children’s magazines to encourage their academic achievements. The non-teaching staff were honoured with gifts, acknowledging their vital contributions to the school’s operations.
The event concluded with a special tribute to Headmaster Javid Ahmad Bhat, who was presented with a shawl in recognition of his leadership in fostering an environment of academic excellence and respect at GMS Onagam. This celebration not only honoured past educators but also strengthened connections across generations, emphasising the enduring impact of teachers on their community.
