SRINAGAR: Aamir Bashir, 34, a graduate of Kashmir University’s MERC faculty, has been appointed Managing Director, making him the first Kashmiri to hold a senior leadership role at News Corporation.

Storyful, a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, announced the opening of a new office in India on Tuesday, signalling a key move in its global expansion efforts.
The new office aims to bolster Storyful’s mission of acquiring and verifying global video content, enhancing its position as a leader in providing authentic, compelling content to newsrooms and brands. Storyful’s parent company, News Corporation, is headquartered in New York and owns notable media properties, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, The Sun, and HarperCollins.
Before joining Storyful, Bashir played a crucial role in Jukin Media’s expansion in Asia, contributing to its $150 million acquisition by Trusted Media Brands, the parent company of Reader’s Digest, in 2021.
James Law, Storyful’s Editor-in-Chief, described the India expansion as a milestone, highlighting the country’s significance as a content hub. “With Aamir Bashir leading the team and a strong recruitment strategy, we are eager to offer engaging, verified videos that enhance storytelling and help clients grow their audiences,” Law stated.
