A day after National Conference parliamentarian G N Ratanpuri described proponents of Autonomy as “leeches and parasites”, his party colleague Dr Mehboob Beg Thursday asked him to clarify his position.

“How this statement came overnight and not earlier, something must behind it. Has he become a separatist from mainstream politician?” Dr Beg told KNS. “He must clarify,” he added when asked about his comments to the utterance by Ratanpuri.

On Wednesday, Ratanpuri had said that those who are talking about Autonomy, Self-Rule and Article 370 ahead of 2014 elections were just misleading masses.

“They are leeches and parasites. These people have been misleading masses by resorting to emotional sloganeering,” Ratanpuri had said, addressing students at a programme here, organized to create awareness about the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) for J&K.

Dr Beg said that National Conference strongly believes that restoration of Autonomy is the best solution to Kashmir issue. “We have been time and again asking the Government of India that quicker you restore it, it will be better.”

Dr Beg hailed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for being consistent in demanding resolution of Kashmir issue.

“From 2009, he has remained steadfast on whatever he has said regarding Kashmir issue. He is the first Chief Minister to say that accession on the floor of house. He has remained consistent in demanding whatever he said before the Prime Minister and UPA chairperson when train service was inaugurated.”
