SRINAGAR: The Ishan Uday scholarship scheme, launched and implemented in 2014 by the University Grants Commission (UGC), aims to promote higher education among the students residing in the North Eastern Region (NER).

The program is available to students undertaking general degree, technical, and professional degree programs, including medical and paramedical degrees.

The application process has already started from October 3, 2023, and is completely online on the National Scholarship Portal. The deadline for the application process is December 31, 2023.

Annually, 10,000 chosen students benefit from financial assistance under this scholarship initiative. Enrolled students in general degree and technical or professional degree receive a monthly scholarship of Rs. 5400 to Rs. 7800 respectively.

The following are the requirements for application eligibility:

  • Applicant must be residing in the North Eastern Region (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Sikkim).
  • Students enrolled in the first year of undergraduate, technical, or professional courses in the academic year 2023, are eligible.
  • Applicants should successfully complete Class 12 or an equivalent examination from CBSE, NIOS, or ICSE Board.
  • The student’s family income should not exceed Rs. 4.5 lakh from all sources.
  • Students admitted through management quota or in open / distance / private universities are not eligible.
