Internet services were suspended in south Kashmir’s Islamabad and Kulgam districts following the gunfight between the government forces and militants at Mehmaan Mohalla in Lal Chowk area of Islamabad district on Wednesday.

Local sources said that internet services were snapped soon after the encounter broke out in the area.

The gunfight started after the after a joint team of army’s 1 Rashtriya Rifles, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Mehmaan Mohalla of Lal Chowk area of Islamabad district after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants.
