District Islamabad has made great strides as well as providing healthcare facilities in concerned. It is only next to summer capital Srinagar in the Kashmir province for having better healthcare network consisting of 18 Medical Institutions, one district hospital, one Maternity and Child Care Centre, one TB Hospital (catering the TB patients of Kulgam district also) five sub-district hospitals at Bijbehara, Dooru, Shangus, Kokernag and Seer-Hamdan and other PHCs.

The District Hospital, Islamabad is under construction at an estimated cost of Rs 59.50 crore. Moreover, the construction of Government Medical College, Islamabad has been handed over to JKPCC for which Rs.7 core have been released for 2016-17. Earthwork of Administration Block and Library Block has been completed.

Construction of new building of Sub-District Hospital, Dooru at an estimated cost of Rs.11.39 crore have been completed with an expenditure of Rs.8.29 crore. Besides, a number of healthcare projects are under execution including Trauma Hospital Bijbehara, new-type-PHCs at Veeri, Dethoo, Brienty and Kheripora, ANM Wandevalgam Kokernag, PHCs at Dialgam, Ranipora, Akura, Adlash Chittergull and Larkipora.

There are also 10 Primary Health Centers functional at Achabal, Mattan, Verinag, Larnoo, Sallar, Ashmuqam, Hakoora, Sagam and Srigufwara in seven Medical blocks of the district which caters to a large population of the district.

In the MMABM District Hospital as many as 283721 outdoor patients and 18996 indoor patients were treated from April 2016 to December 20, 2016. During the same period 2244 major operations, 996 minor operations, 932 ophthalmic surgeries, 1177 Endoscopy Tests, 164 Colonoscopy Tests, 129297 Blood Tests, 40410 Urine examinations, 611 Sputum Tests, 4802 HIV Tests, 13243 USGs, 3599 CT scans, 14537 ECGs, 32182 X-Rays, 11444 Digital X-Rays, 5189 Dental X-Rays were also conducted. In the same time period 205 dog and bear bite cases were treated.

Pertinently, a team from SKIMS, Soura which visited District Hospital Islamabad for investigation of cancer patients has conducted seven surgeries during their two visits.

The Maternity and Child Care Hospital, Islamabad is not only providing medicare facilities to the patients of the district only but also caters to the patients of Pulwama, Qazigund, Kulgam, D.H.Pora, Shopian, Yaripora and Banihall areas. Since April, 2016 as many as109224 OPD patients, 15038 in Gynae and 94186 in Pediatric sections were treated in the hospital. About 3307 major operations, 3752 minor operations, 3546 normal deliveries and 3264 Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS) were conducted during the period. A total of 6663 live births were recorded including 3294 female births. The hospital also conducted HIV/AIDS detection tests of 15389 patients, VDRL of 9795 patients and referred 1795 patients during the period.

Under immunization programme in MCCH, 7693 doses of BCG, 997 doses of DPT/OPV, 972 dozes of measles, 706 doses of measles booster, 1286 dozes of Pentvaline-I, 1145 Pentvaline-II, 997 doses of Pentvaline-III, 450 doses of DPT 5 years, 3126 doses of Vitamin A, 3334 doses of Vitamin K and 2128 doses of IPV Vaccine has been administered to the children in the hospital since April, 2016. Similarly, under Hepatitis, 7107 doses of vaccine were also given under 1st Dose, 2nd Dose and 3rd Dose. Under laboratory investigations, 179153 blood tests, 470 blood transfusions., 13702 urine tests, 2640 Gravindex tests were made in the hospital from April 2016 to December20, 2016.

Similarly, under Janani Surkasha Yojna (JSY), 3614 cases have been covered under which a financial assistance of Rs. 1400 each to rural based beneficiaries on institutional delivery, Rs.1000 to urban based beneficiary and Rs.500 on home delivery was provided under the scheme.

The District Tuberculoses Hospital, Islamabad which also caters to the needs of patients of Kulgam district has made sputum examination of 82198 patients and has detected 1237 positive cases from April 2016 to December 20, 2016. Besides, it also provides free medicines at the DOTS centers at Islamabad, Achabal, Shangus, Mattan, Ashmuqam, Bijbehara, Sallar, Qaimoh, Kulgam, D.H.Pora, Yaripora, Dooru, Qazigund, Verinag and Kokernag.
