The Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine, Sher-e-Kashmir-Institute of Medical Science on Tuesday organised 1st International CME on Allergy: Diagnosis and Immunological interventions.

Prof Ruby Pawanker President Indian Academy of Allergy, who is Professor Nippon Medical College Tokoyo was the Chief guest on the occasion. Prof MA Siddiqui and VC (IUST) and Dr Neelu Kalra were the Guest of Honours.

Prof Pawanker emphasized on gold-mining the research field of immunology apart from stressing on the clinical and diagnostic aspects of allergy.

Director SKIMS, Prof A G Ahanger underscored the inescapable role that allergies play in our lives. He congratulated the department for organizing such a landmark event and hailed the efforts put in by the SKIMS allergy remedial area.

Dr Zaffar Amin Shah HOD Immunology and Molecular Medicine said that the allergy unit happens to be the only centre in the state of J& K to cater to the sole problem of allergy.

Dr Roohi Rasool, the organizing secretary said more than 3000 patients have been tested for allergies till date and allergy vaccination has been given to around 800 patients.

The thrust area is to educate the general public for giving this disease the due importance it deserves, and at the same time sensitizing our medical community about better scientific modalities available at present.

“Small recurrent cold attacks (Zukaam) should not be overlooked because it can become asthama as the age advances. So catch the patient young only,” she said.

A book on Allergies by Dr AB Singh was also released on the occasion by Dr. Ruby Pawankar.
