Shopian

Strange but true that almost 50 government teachers in district Shopian are yet to receive their first salary ever since they joined their job in 2012.

Sources said that a section of government teachers hailing from Shopian, Imamsahab, Vehil and Keegam educational Zones are without salaries from September 28, 2012.

Though director school education Mir Tariq Ahmad said that the salaries of these teachers would be released soon, however he could not elaborate the reason that why these teachers have not been issued their salaries.

When asked about the reasons for not releasing the salaries to the said teachers in the district Shopian, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Shopian, Abdul Hamid Kumar, said, “The government is not releasing NPA (No Pension Allowances) for the teachers of elementary stream and without NPA education department can’t release their salaries.

These teachers were interviewed in 2010 and the selection list was stayed soon after it was out. Finally they were allowed to join their jobs on September 28, 2012.

The teachers told Kashmir Life that despite receiving training from the concerned DIET the department is denying the stipend of the training period too.

Holding the state government responsible for non disbursement of their salaries, the teachers further said that they are severely suffering even having government job. “We consider ourselves jobless even though we were permanently selected as teachers more than one and a half year ago,” Nazir Ahmad, a teacher said.

Sources in the CEO office Shopian, informed that nonpayment of the salaries to 50 teachers have badly affected their work.
