SRINAGAR: A few days after JK Peoples Conference (JKPC) Chief Sajad Gani Lone reached out to the Apni Party to unite against the National Conference in north Kashmir, party president Altaf Bukhari has now thrown his support behind the PC chief.

Bukhari, while addressing the media in Srinagar, said that Apni Party won’t field its candidate from the North and will back Sajad Lone.

Altaf Bukhari said that he is supporting Sajad Lone as he represents a new era in politics, with a fresh vision. He suggested that older politicians should consider retiring from politics to allow this new vision to take root.

He further stated that their fight is for the restoration of statehood and the reinstatement of job and land rights. Bukhari expressed concern over the plight of children languishing in jails, noting that while some have been freed, approximately 1400 remain incarcerated, and they will endeavour to secure their release.

Lone, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from north Kashmir’s Baramulla seat, claimed that the National Conference benefits from the fragmentation of votes.

“I appeal to (Apni Party chief) Altaf Bukhari, let us stop the division of votes in north Kashmir and let them support us there,” Lone said at a press conference on Saturday.
