Hurriyat Conference (G) Friday described statement of Director General Police as ridiculous wherein he had claimed that people did not support the call against Gool incident and stone pelters are being funded by pro-freedom parties.
In a statement a spokesperson of Hurriyat (G) termed DGP’s statement with regards to religious freedom baseless and a blatant lie. “People of Jammu and Kashmir are indeed peace loving people, but since decades they continue to express their resentment against repression and suppression. Stone pelting is not innovative thought propounded by Hurriyat and nor there arises any need to finance stone pelting. Even stone pelting as a sign of resistance was used against tyrant Dogra rulers” he said. The Hurriyat (G) made it clear that it is since 1947, people resorted to stone pelting. “It is a symbol of resistance and a means to express resentment in overall civilized world against foreign occupation and against mis-governance. Even in developed countries where the roads are too modernized and this weapon is not easily available, people resort to eggs and tomatoes, instead of stones,” he said.
The spokesman, however, said people in J&K are killed with bullets and pallets for stone pelting and added that in entire civilized world the angry mob are controlled by harmless measures and techniques. “Hundreds of youth were killed in 2008, 2010 and none among them had a gun in their hand. All of those killed were students and the killers were not even asked for their wrongdoings,” he claimed.
The Hurriyat (G) while terming the DGP’s statement ‘senseless’ said that nobody would dare to put his life at risk for little money as stated by the DGP. Hurriyat lamented and expressed deep sorrow over the statement wherein he had said that people turned the back and not supported the pro-freedom leaders for their protest call against Gool tragedy and claimed that police brought situation under control in just three days
“Police chief ought to have apologized for loss of precious lives and desecration of Holy Quran. However, they are proud of that hundreds of innocents were injured in pellet firing and arrested, and property worth millions ransacked. Even people were not allowed to mourn over the tragedy,” he alleged.
