SRINAGAR: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC) at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) will host a national-level film festival on October 15, featuring more than 20 shortlisted short films and documentaries by student filmmakers.
The festival will be held at the Lal Ded Auditorium on the university’s main campus and will include film screenings, an expert panel discussion and a competition for the best film awards among school, college and university students.
According to a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations and Media Centre (PR&MC), the entries will be evaluated by a jury comprising Professor Shahid Rasool, Dean of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Media School at the Central University of Kashmir; actor and director Mir Sarwar; and filmmaker Danish Renzu, founder of Renzu Films.
Student filmmakers from colleges and universities in Jammu and Kashmir and other states of India are expected to participate. Films produced by DJMC will also be screened during the event.
The festival aims to provide a platform for emerging creative talent and promote cinema, arts and culture in the region, the university said.
The event follows the department’s earlier editions held in 2023 and 2025, which saw student participation and collaboration among educational institutions across the Valley, according to the university.
