SRINAGAR:: Jammu and Kashmir former governor Jagmohan Malhotra has died. He presided over Kashmir in the early 1990s and was sacked by the VP Singh government days after the assassination of Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq.

Jagmohan was 94 (born September 1927) Details are awaited. It was not immediately known if he died at home or in a hospital and if at all he had any virus infection.

Aditya Raj Kaul wrote: “Sad news at midnight. Former Jammu & Kashmir Governor #Jagmohan passes away. He was a civil servant before becoming Lt. Governor of Delhi and Goa. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2016. For me he was the saviour of Kashmiri Pandits who met ethnic cleansing in 1990. In mourning.

Not many know but Governor Jagmohan spent almost his entire retired life inside the IIC Library in New Delhi’s Lodhi Road. There was a dedicated spot where he was surrounded by books. Silently reading, far away from politics. Ever smiling, humble personality.”
An on lin Facebook group Kashmir Hindu Foundation wrote: “Very sad and shocking to learn the sad news that Former Jammu & Kashmir Governor #Jagmohan passes away. He was a civil servant before becoming Lt. Governor of Delhi and Goa. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2016. For Kashmiri Hindus who were ethnically cleansed in 1990, he was our savior and a hero. The entire Kashmiri Pandit community is in mourning for this great soul. We will never forget you.”
