Union minister for Rural Development, Jairam Ramesh Friday visited Budgam and announced that government will provide ten thousand rupees for every family to own a toilet. The sum will be provided under a central sponsored scheme. Jairam attended two functions in Budgam and Khansahab.

MLA Khansahab had gathered a few thousand women to attend the union minister’s function. Khansahab block is one of the four to have ‘Umeed’ programme. ‘Umeed’ is a self help group for women. “New Delhi wants to set up ninety thousand groups in JK in the next five years with an investment of eight hundred crores in five years,” Jairam said.

In the district headquarter of Dudgam, Jairam visited a ‘Himayat’ centre where 132 candidates have been trained and 105 among them are presently in the market.

So far 5200 boys and girls have been trained under ‘Himayat’ scheme in Budgam and placed in market. 900 of them are presently working outside Jammu and Kashmir.
