Police on Monday said that Jish-e-Muhammad chief Khalid was killed in a brief encounter with forces at Ladoora area of Baramulla district.
Reports said that Khalid fired on Police naka party at Ladoora area of Baramulla district. The party had laid a naka to catch him after the inputs about his movement.
As soon as the militant reached the naka spot, he fired at the party. There was a brief exchange of fire, a police official said.
He escaped from the spot and entered into a local residential house, the official said. He later left the residential house and took refuge in a cowshed where he has been reportedly killed.
Khalid, a resident of Pakistan, according to police sources, was a most wanted militant and was categorised as A++. Police said he was involved in a series of killings in northern part of Kashmir.
