In an order issued on October 29, the university said the decision followed consideration of a representation submitted by students on the same day. The directions cover implementation of the Jamia Millia Islamia Students’ Union (JMISU) constitution, the conduct of union elections and withdrawal of disciplinary action against students involved in the protests.

The university has also decided to resume offline classes from November 2.

The decision comes amid continuing student protests demanding the restoration of the elected students’ union. The agitation had persisted despite an earlier assurance by the administration that elections would be conducted within 15 days of the approval of the union constitution. Students had objected to the absence of a specified timeline for approving the constitution.

The administration had initiated disciplinary proceedings against some students during the agitation. On October 27, the Provost of Begum Hazrat Mahal Girls’ Hostel issued a show-cause notice to a student, alleging that she had obtained emergency leave on misleading grounds and subsequently participated in the protest. She was asked to submit a written explanation within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the university had extended online classes until November 24 and shifted odd-semester examinations to online mode, citing the prevailing situation on campus and concerns over students’ safety and security.
