Jammu Accounts for Over 92 Per Cent of 26,558 EWS Certificates Issued in Jammu Kashmir in Two Years

   

SRINAGAR: A total of 26,558 Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) certificates have been issued in Jammu and Kashmir over the past two years, with Jammu division accounting for more than 92 percent of the total beneficiaries, according to official data.

Out of the total certificates issued across the Union Territory, 24,545 were issued in Jammu division, while only 2,013 were issued in Kashmir division. This places Jammu’s share at approximately 92.4 percent of the total EWS certificates issued during the period, with Kashmir accounting for about 7.6 percent.

The EWS category in Jammu and Kashmir provides a 10 percent reservation in government employment and admissions to educational institutions for eligible candidates belonging to economically weaker sections.

Officials said the certification enables applicants to avail reservation benefits under the prescribed income and asset criteria. The figures reflect the uptake of EWS certification across both divisions over the last two years.
