Jammu Admn Bans Animal Labour from Noon to 3 PM Amid Heatwave

   

Jammu: Due to soaring temperatures in Jammu, the District Magistrate has restricted the use of animals for drawing vehicles or carrying loads between 12 noon and 3 pm to prevent injuries or deaths.

An official notice from Sachin Kumar Vaishya, District Magistrate of Jammu, reads that instances have been reported of people using animals such as buffalo, bullock, pony, mule, donkey, and camel during high daytime temperatures exceeding 37°C, potentially causing harm or death to the animals.

The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Draught and Pack Animals Rules, 1965, provide a legal framework for taking preventive measures and action against offenders violating animal welfare laws. The order, effective immediately, will remain in force for two months or until rescinded, whichever is earlier.

Under Section 6 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Draught and Pack Animals Rules, 1965, the order prohibits using any animal for drawing vehicles or carrying loads between 12 noon and 3 pm.
