SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) reportedly arrested a Naib Tehsildar from Khrew, Pulwama, on Tuesday for allegedly accepting a bribe. Additionally, a constable was detained for purportedly facilitating the offence.

A spokesperon in a satement said that the JK Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint against the Naib Tehsildar of Khrew, District Pulwama. The complaint alleged that the Naib Tehsildar demanded Rs 10,000 from the complainant, through his clerk named Ajaz Ahmad, for settling a dispute over ancestral land at village Sathpokhran, Khrew Pulwama.

“The complainant approached the Tehsil Office in Khrew several times for settlement of the dispute, but the Naib Tehsildar did not cooperate. Furthermore, the complainant was harassed through notices by the Naib Tehsildar,” the statement said.

Upon receiving the complaint, ACB initiated action against the Naib Tehsildar and his clerk, Ajaz Ahmed. A case under FIR number 02/2024 under section 7 of the PC Act 1988 was registered at PS ACB Anantnag, and investigation was commenced.

During the investigation, a trap team was formed. “The team successfully laid a trap and apprehended Maqbool Hussain Dar, a resident of Nooripor, Pattan, who was presently posted as Naib Tehsildar in Khrew, District Pulwama, red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. Additionally, the constable, Ajaz Ahmad, attached with the Naib Tehsildar, was also arrested for allegedly facilitating the commission of the offence. Further investigation into the case is ongoing,” it reads.(KNO)
