SRINAGAR: The Administrative Council (AC) which met here under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Wednesday approved the creation of five Special Courts along with posts for the trial of offences under the NDPS Act along with supporting staff and infrastructure.

These special courts will be established in Jammu, Srinagar, Anantnag, Pulwama, and Baramulla districts. The initiative is expected to have an annual financial impact of Rs 4.65 crore for the Union Territory, the spokesman said.

Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor; Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary and Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor attended the meeting.

A resolution of Committee of Judges of JK High Court had recommended that Special Courts must be created at-least in those districts where pendency of NDPS cases is more than 500 which has also been approved by the Chief Justice.
