Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah has courted another controversy by daring Narendra Modi-led union government to unfurl the tricolour at Lal Chowk in Jammu Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar.

“They are talking of raising flag at Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PaK). I ask them, first go and raise the Tricolour at Lal Chawk in Srinagar. They can’t even do that here and they are talking about PaK,” the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said, quoted Times Now.

The NC president also expressed concerns over the “worsening security situation” in Jammu and Kashmir and said the New Delhi has to frame its response vis-a-vis Pakistan for bringing peace in the region. Terming the meetings of Interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma, with people as a ‘formality’, Abdullah said that peace would be achieved only when ‘sincere and serious efforts’ were made.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Kathua district, Abdullah said, “Claims of peace (in Jammu and Kashmir) are falling flat in the face of increased killings. Yet another jawan has been abducted and killed.”

Earlier on Novermber 11, Farooq Abdullah had stirred controversy by saying that the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir belongs to Pakistan and this wont change no matter how many wars India and Pakistan fight.

“I tell them in plain terms not only the people of India, but also to the world — that the part (of J&K) which is with Pakistan (PaK) belongs to Pakistan and this side to India. This won’t change. Let them fight how many wars they want to. This wont change,” Abdullah had said.

Following his statement, the Anti Terrorist Front India had announced a bounty of Rs 21 lakh prize for cutting  Abdullah’s tongue, saying he has “insulted” the country with his pro- Pakistan remarks and was speaking “against” the RSS.
