SRINAGAR: Most wanted LeT/TRF commander Basit Dar and another militant were killed on Tuesday in Redwani Payeen of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir V K Birdi said that Basit Dar, who was among the most wanted, was killed along with another militant in a fierce gunfight with security forces.
The senior officer stated that this is a significant achievement for the forces as Basit Dar was responsible for many militant attacks, especially in Srinagar.
Basit, a resident of Redwani in Kulgam, had been missing from his home for three years before joining The Resistance Front (TRF), an organisation affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The NIA had announced Rs 10 lakh reward for information leading to the arrest of TRF chief Basit Ahmed Dar.
Additionally, Basit was identified as the mastermind behind a series of civilian killings, the officer added. (GNS)
